SimCity News

Please note I'm currently working on the new site. I didn't want to take the site offline though, so you can still visit it. However me working on the site while it's still online means a lot of the pages will appear wonky. But not to worry, it won't take too long. Happy

Welcome to the temporary SimsNetwork (SNW) and SimCityNetwork (SCN) website!

Here is a Q&A or FAQ, whatever you want to call it, that will hopefully answer some questions.

Where is the real website? What happened?
It's gone! The website as we know it, is gone. The server crashed. The file system corrupted everything. All the websites and mailboxes (among other things) are corrupted and unreadable.

What about backups?
We have one person who usually makes a daily backup. However this person experienced issues of his own right when the server was failing, therefore the recent backups are gone. We do have a few backups from August 2012 and those should be safe and well. Nonetheless it's from August 2012, which is why we lost everything that happened between August and now.

And what happens now?
After a weekend of inspecting the damage and lots of tears, I decided to continue with SNW. I have to admit losing my "baby" like that is hard and I had to think about whether or not I wanted to start over. However I know in my heart I would miss it too much. I would miss the games, the community, the people, everything really. So I am going to start over. My boyfriend (Cheetah from The Sims Zone) will help me rebuild and restructure the website. I can do it myself, but it will take longer if I do everything alone. It's a complex system and I'm really a perfectionist when it comes to my sites, so I only trust Cheetah to help me with this. A lot of friends have offered their help, and I really appreciate that!

Cheetah is the one who is going to download whatever is left of the files. After everything is downloaded and kept safe on a backup disc, he will install everything on the server again. Fresh and clean. Once this is done, most of the sites can be moved back, including a few of my own (since I haven't updated most of them lately, and therefore the August 2012 backups will be fine for those sites).

When will SNW be back?
Like I said before: we have to start over. I roughly work 10-12 hours a day on my websites, so I'm hoping to be back within 2-4 weeks. But in the meantime, this temporary site will have to do. We will post important news here, as well as previews/reviews and giveaways.

To stay up to date, follow us on Facebook and Twitter. Thanks for sticking with us!

I was planning to write a post about this some time ago, but I was busy with the reviews and just forgot to write this. Sorry!

Our community manager Anita recently left EA, which came to me as quite a shock. She has been the Dutch (or actually, BeNeLux) community manager for many years and it's only fair to wish her good luck with whatever she is going to do next. Thank you Anita for all your hard work. Don't be a stranger, okay? We hope to see you on Gamescom soon! :D

In case you are wondering who will be replacing her as a community manager, that would be Jordy, who many of you may know from Simparool and Sunset Valley Times. He has been an intern at EA Benelux twice now and has learned enough to take on the role of community manager. We're looking forward to hear more from him! Happy

The Real City-Building Simulation Game Is Now Live and Available to Play

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- SimCity™ Social cuts the ribbon on the world's largest social network! Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:EA) today announced that SimCity Social is now live on Facebook. A close collaboration between many talented people at Maxis and Playfish, SimCity Social takes the hallmark features that SimCity fans have loved over the past two decades and integrates them with advanced social features, bringing the real social city-building simulation to the masses.

"SimCity Social will entice a new generation of urban planners with its easy-to-use tools that allow anyone to expand and grow their own unique sprawling metropolises and watch as it comes to life in fun and unexpected ways," said Jami Laes, Vice President of Global Studios for Playfish. "SimCity Social is about playing with your friends. Whether you do that with kindness by helping put out a fire or through mischievous acts like helping a criminal escape, the decisions you make with your friends will determine how the story of your cities plays out."

In SimCity Social, there are no set linear paths to follow; cities evolve as a direct result of player-driven choice allowing for more creative freedom. As mayor, players will deal with unforeseen issues like fires, crime and pollution, and will make crucial decisions that will help them discover how their cities take shape. Social interactions in SimCity Social go far beyond just visiting friends' cities or using them as resources to complete tasks. Players can choose to build friendly relationships with other cities or form an intense rivalry through a dynamic and ever-evolving friend and foe system. With multiple options for city growth, unexpected gameplay events that shape the destiny of the city, and city-to-city relationships, players will see recognizable changes that bring forth aesthetic and gameplay alterations based on the decisions made in the game — for better or for worse.

SimCity fans can visit www.facebook.com/simcitysocial to "Like" the game and join the more than 750,000 fans. Players of SimCity Social who "Like" the game get access to free in-game exclusive content.

Following the success of the integration in The Sims Social, Dunkin' Donuts will be integrated into SimCity Social at launch where players can gift Coffee Boosts and Donut Boosts to enable friends to enhance their game play experience. Dunkin' Donuts will continue to launch new features and gifting campaigns in the game throughout the year, including exclusive SimCity Social items available to players who choose to visit and "like" the Dunkin' Donuts Facebook page.

The Critically-Acclaimed Simulation Franchise That Launched The City-Building Genre Stakes Claim On Facebook

"Facebook gamers have been waiting a long time for the original and best city-building game to come to the platform," said Jami Laes, Vice President of Global Studios for Playfish.
